Chicago, IL (August 27, 2009) – Chicagoan Kate Robertson, a former Peace Corps volunteer, turned a volunteer stint into a full-fledged business offering U.S. social conscious consumers 100% alpaca accessories hand-knit by women artisans in Peru. Her company, Mayu, is debuting its official collection this fall which includes a scarf, wrap and throw made from 100% alpaca wool. Each is handmade and fairly traded.

Mayu (www.ShopMayu.com) is an e-boutique specializing in high-end, 100% alpaca accessories hand-knit by women in the Andes Mountains of Peru. Each carefully crafted item is fairly traded, meaning the women who make the products receive a fair wage for their work.

Mayu accessories are made with the highest-quality Peruvian alpaca, making them softer than cashmere and warmer than wool. Gift givers will find gorgeous, one-of-a-kind, alpaca creations in a variety of shapes, sizes and stitches. Mayu recently introduced the “hoodie,” a unique scarf with patch pockets and a hood as well as the “ruffle,” a unique design that cinches the scarf’s length to gather around the neck. Colors options range from eggplant purple and chocolate brown to snowy white and charcoal gray.

Mayu began in 2006 after Kate Robertson from Chicago after returning from a two-year assignment as a Peace Corps volunteer.
