How do I Write Eco News for EcoFactory?
EcoFactory doesn't have a monopoly on eco news. News has to come from somewhere, and we only have so many ears. If you catch something we haven't heard of, or if you think you've got what it takes to be an eco reporter, do the following:
- Become a member of EcoFactory. It's easy, and it's free! You'll find the option at the top right of any EcoFactory page, right below the search window on the title bar. Find it? Good. Enter in the necessary information and you're on your way to being an EcoFactory member.
- Now that you're an EcoFactory member (or maybe you already were), scroll down to the bottom of the page (any EcoFactory page will do) and click on "Write for Us!" This will take you to our contact form. If you're logged in as a member, your name and email address will already appear in the relevant fields. Write a subject to your request, then select either "Become a writer for EcoFactory" or "Report eco news" in the category drop-down menu. (If you're confused, go check out the page and come back. We'll wait.) Finally, write us a message and send it off. We'll contact you shortly regarding your request.
- We don't accept everyone as an EcoFactory writer. More on that later. But assuming you become a writer for us ... write! Anything you write will run through our benevolent monarchic editor, who rules EcoFactory singlehandedly and does a darn fine job of it too. Writing the news is pretty self-explanatory, or it should be if you got past our review board in the application process.
EcoFactory's editor has strict standards for our eco news. First, your writing should be coherent and literate. If your grammar is mostly impeccable, your spelling accurate, and your word choice creative, you might be what we're looking for. Second, your news submissions should be relevant. We do report on things that aren't necessarily green, often political or societal issues, but we don't do celebrity gossip or personal vendettas or the like. Use your discretion. Third, you should try to be fair in your reporting. Everything is slanted one way or another in this day and age, but we try to be as straight up as possible, so do your best to get all sides to a story. Blogs are another issue, as you might have seen (you can do pretty much whatever you want there), but news needs to stay professional in tone and presentation.
Follow those guidelines, and you too could be an EcoFactory laborer!
