President Obama Calls for Local Earth Day Actions

Revisiting the historic Cuyahoga River fire that was the catalyst for the first earth day, President Obama honors the 40th Earth Day and challenges Americans to take action in their community to improve their environment. The president acknowledges that much as been done in the past 40 years, including the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency, the Clean Water and Clean Air acts, and new controls to crack down on polluters. President Obama is calling for even more action by our country's government systems and an increase in personal responsibility on the part of the average American.

Local actions this Earth Day could include simple things like installing energy efficient appliances and using public transportation. President Obama urged citizens to keep the momentum going forward, and be the leaders of the next 40 years of environmental action.
