Selecting Earth Day 2009, Winter Park's Mayor Ken Bradley, Lee Mackin, the Chief of the Department of Forestry for Winter Park, and Louise Sheehy, the Director of the Multifaith Education Project, joined forces to make this year's Earth Day truly meaningful with a tree planting ceremony that brought together children of three different parochial schools. The religions represented on April 22, 2009 were the Christian, Jewish and Islamic faiths. A child from each school was selected to bless one of three newly planted trees in the accordance with their faith and then the trees received their first watering.
Lee Mackin was busy educating everyone who attended Winter Park's Earth Day event about the methods of planting and caring for trees. The Mayor gave a moving speech as he proclaimed Earth Day, April 22nd to be the Day of Planting Trees for Peace in Winter Park, Florida. Louise Sheehy made a speech about unity and wanted everyone to understand that when people get to know one another they learn to like each other as well.
Ecofactory was proud to be part of the "Planting for Peace" project and the tree giveaway which took place in Winter Park this April 22, 2009. On location were Roquois Clarke and Daniel Tinajero who conducted interviews and helped to bring closure to the event shown in the accompanying video.
